Description:
BAUER, a world leader in the field of high pressure compressor systems, is in search of an Engineering Materials Technician to join its Norfolk, VA based manufacturing facility.
Incorporation of high-pressure compressors into packages tailored to various industries, gases, pressures and end uses. Includes original design, customization and improvement of existing designs, development of accessories and administrative functions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Includes the following, but other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides research on technically suitable assemblies, products, components and consumable materials in accordance with written specifications or instructions
  • Enters relevant information into the ERP system, for assigned products and components
  • Meets or corresponds with salespersons of technical products seeking items with superior technical attributes and lower material costs
  • Identifies and order long lead time components to support Engineering and Production with the manufacture of SPECIALS
  • Performs matrix analysis of similar components, to assist Engineering and Management in making effective purchasing decisions
  • Enters CAD drawings or 3-D solid models on the Engineering LAN for future use by Engineering Personnel
  • Using Autodesk Inventor, models select components, as requested
  • Works within financial and schedule constraints.
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Specifies materials/equipment used in design
  • Interfaces with Sales, Purchasing, Product Support and various Manufacturing departments
  • Works closely with Engineering Product Managers, Engineers and Purchasing

Nonessential Functions:

These duties are desirable and sometimes necessary, but not as essential as the above duties

  • Assigned collateral projects and duties to support departmental operations needs
  • Occasional travel to trade shows

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of sheet metal design preferred
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
  • Basic knowledge of compressors and pneumatics preferred
  • Basic knowledge of electrical motor controls and PLC systems preferred
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision

Education and Experience:

  • High School with Associates Degree Preferred
  • Ex Military in technical rating useful
  • Minimum 3 years of design experience in an industrial environment
